Edward Kennedy

Senator Edward J. Kennedy was elected to the State Senate in 2018. He represents the First Middlesex District, which includes Dunstable, Groton, Lowell, Pepperell, Tyngsborough and Westford. Senator Kennedy serves as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses. He also serves on the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, Joint Committee on Election Laws, Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Joint Committee on Higher Education and the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government. He is a leading voice for economic development initiatives and environmental policy. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, Ed Kennedy served on the Lowell City Council from 1978 to 1985 and again from 2012 to 2019. He was the mayor of Lowell for a two-year term from 2016 to 2017 and also served two terms as a Middlesex County Commissioner. Kennedy holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Framingham State University. He resides in Lowell with his wife, Susan.
