Joe Boncore

Joint Committee on Transportation Chair

Senator Joe Boncore was elected in 2016 representing his hometown of Winthrop, Revere and sections of both Boston and Cambridge. He serves as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation and Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Rules and the Joint Committee on Rules. His priorities have included affordable housing, smart development, tackling the opioid crisis and criminal justice reform. Senator Boncore previously served on the Winthrop Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and served as Board Chairman. He worked in private practice as an attorney and served as a public defender with Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, serving as a voice for those who cannot afford an attorney. He has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including as national vice president of the Sons of Italy in America and National President of the Commission for Social Justice. Senator Boncore graduated from Providence College and from the Massachusetts School of Law.
