Senator Mark Montigny represents Greater New Bedford in the Southcoast region.  As the current Chair of Senate Steering and Policy and former Chair of Senate Ways and Means, Montigny has a long, successful track record of progressive legislation, including his landmark anti-human trafficking law and 2016 animal welfare law. He is also Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Export Development.

Montigny authored the first-in-the-nation universal health care plan for children and Senior Prescription Advantage Program.  He has also been a longtime leader in efforts to combat prescription price gouging.  Since 2004, Montigny has championed legislation to prohibit the use of cell phones while driving.

In New Bedford, Montigny spurred the revitalization of its downtown cultural district through legislation creating the UMass Star Store campus and state earmarks to local arts organizations.  He currently focuses on providing underserved children access to these cultural experiences and opportunities.

Senator Montigny’s passion for international travel has brought him to over 90 countries, including relief work in Haiti.  He is the proud father of a 5-year-old son.
