Enacting Criminal Justice Reform

The Senate recently passed a criminal justice reform bill that, at its heart, was about creating the opportunity for more people to fully participate in our economy.

Together, we have opened up a future of possibilities for young people who are being diverted from the criminal justice system and provided with the supports that they need through Family Resource Centers. A mistake in adolescence should not define a person’s life. Our work on juvenile justice reform will give young people a second chance to start adulthood without the blemish of a criminal record.

Over the past several years, there has been a cultural shift around how we think about recidivism and what must be done to provide those who have served their time with the opportunity to rebuild their lives. It is our responsibility as leaders to continue to drive this important conversation with policies that emphasize restorative justice.
