Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy and Joint Committee on Racial Equity, Civil Rights, and Inclusion Chair

Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz was elected to the Senate in 2008 to represent Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Mission Hill, Roslindale, Roxbury, the South End and her home neighborhood of Jamaica Plain in Boston. She is Chair of the Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy, Chair of the Joint Committee on Racial Equity, Civil Rights, and Inclusion, and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. The first Latina elected to the Massachusetts State Senate, she has been a leader on education policy and reform, civil rights and equality, expanded voting rights, housing and supports for immigrants. Prior to serving in the Senate, Senator Chang-Diaz served as a public school teacher in the Lynn and Boston school systems and, before that, as a legislative and policy aide. She received her B.A. from University of Virginia and is married with two children.
