In 2022, Senator Liz Miranda was elected to the State Senate to represent the majority of the city of Boston, which makes up the 2nd Suffolk district.
Prior to the Senate Election, Senator Miranda was the State Representative of the 5th Suffolk, where she worked extremely hard for the people and families of the 5th Suffolk and across the Commonwealth. The act of gun violence that took the life of her brother drove her to run for office and focus mainly on gun violence prevention. She became a lead author in the passing of the police reform omnibus bill and a legislative champion for violence prevention funding, which the funding has tripled since her first term.
Before she ran for office, Senator Miranda was a non-profit executive, entrepreneur, and community organizer. She started as a youth organizer in the Dudley Triangle, where she fought to rebuild her community and protect land, and later served as the Executive Director for the Hawthorne Youth and Community Center, and the Director of Youth Opportunity Development at Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI).
She is a proud alumnus of Wellesley College and a Boston Public Schools graduate from the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science. She is an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Boston Alumnae Chapter, and the Wellesley Club of Boston.
