The Massachusetts Senate is taking its show on the road

BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Senate is taking its show on the road.

The Senate has launched what it’s calling its “Commonwealth Conversations 2019-2020 Tour.”

The goal is to get the Senate out of the vaunted confines of Beacon Hill and into neighborhoods across the state to hear what people are concerned about.

Senate leaders say the statewide listening tour is meant to foster “civic engagement” while letting senators learn about issues facing districts outside of their own.

The events will be scheduled on a rolling basis throughout the 2019-2020 legislative session.

The first session was held Monday when Democratic Sen. James Welch of West Springfield led his colleagues on a tour of MGM Springfield.

The next stop will be hosted by Democratic Sen. Marc Pacheco in the Taunton area on March 4.
