Senator Julian Cyr was elected to the Senate in 2016 to represent Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. He is the Assistant Majority Whip, Chair of the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery, Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Racial Equity, Civil Rights, and Inclusion. He also serves on committees with oversight of health care policy, public health, municipalities and regional government and education.
Prior to his election, he served as director of policy and regulatory affairs for environmental health at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Previously, he served on the Massachusetts Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning Youth, interned in the Obama White House, worked for the William J. Clinton Foundation’s Global Initiative and was a harm-reduction counselor at the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod. Senator Cyr earned a degree in public policy and community health from New York University.
